Lakeland School Corporation (LSC) was selected to receive the OSE Behavior Grant from the Indiana Department of Education. In total, LSC was awarded $119,327.75!
The Pew Research Center states that 68% of teachers have experienced verbal abuse from students, and 21% stated this happens more than once per month. They go on to say 68% of elementary and middle school teachers report dealing with behavior issues on a daily basis. (https://www.pewresearch.org/?p=38165) This grant will be utilized to further train teachers and staff at Lakeland to better serve students with behavioral needs. Lakelandβs elementary staff will continue training with βConscious Discipline.β Conscious Discipline is focused on recognizing the brain states and applying self-regulation strategies in order to be ready to learn. It has a universal application, meaning the strategies are taught to all students. Students that have larger, more disruptive behavior need different strategies. Lakeland will be adding βZones of Regulationβ training for our students with higher needs. Zones of Regulation will provide students with visuals to help them identify and regulate their emotions in order to be successful in the learning environment.
This grant will also pay for Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) training, developed by the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development at Texas Christian University, which equips individuals with practical tools to understand and meet the needs of children who have experienced trauma, fostering trust and healthy relationships. This will be another skillset to help equip students for success.
Lakeland School Corporation is thrilled to be one of the recipients of this OSE grant!
