BAT

This past Wednesday, the hallways of Lakeland Primary School were transformed into a vibrant hub of literacy as the school hosted its Title 1 Family Literacy Night. The event served as the grand finale to a school-wide reading of A Boy Called Bat by Elana K. Arnold.

The evening was designed to celebrate the book's themes of empathy, neurodiversity, and a love for animals. By bringing the story’s characters and lessons into a physical space, Lakeland Primary successfully bridged the gap between the classroom and the home!

Highlights of the Successful Evening Included:

  • The "Every-Kind-of-Animal" Mask Workshop: Students tapped into their inner "Bat" by designing masks representing their favorite animals, echoing the book's focus on veterinary care and animal friendship.

  • Literary Musical Chairs: A high-energy twist on the classic game that incorporated movement into the storytelling process.

  • The Ultimate "Bat" Kahoot! Challenge: Families went head-to-head in a live, digital trivia competition, testing their knowledge of Bixby Alexander Tam (Bat) and his baby skunk, Thor.

  • Shared Reading Circles: Teachers and guest readers hosted cozy reading sessions.
