After nearly two decades away from the Indiana State School of Music Association (ISSMA), the Lakeland Choir Program made a triumphant return to the ISSMA Solo & Ensemble competition at the District and State level. Marking the school’s first appearance in 16 years, Lakeland students achieved a clean sweep, earning top-tier honors across the board! The Lakers' return was defined by excellence, with every participating student securing a Gold rating!
Students who qualified and performed at the State level:
● Daymein Wicke: Gold Rating
● Maggie Martin: Gold Rating with Distinction
● Jarumie Altamira: Gold Rating with Distinction
Understanding the "Distinction" Standard:
In the world of ISSMA, a Gold Rating is the premier goal for any performer. However, the Gold with Distinction honor is a rare feat reserved exclusively for those who achieve perfect or near-perfect scores from the judging panel at the State level. By meeting this rigorous standard, Maggie Martin and Jarumie Altamira have placed themselves among the elite vocalists in the state.
"We are so incredibly proud of the hard work and courage these students displayed," said Elizabeth Brumbaugh, Band & Choir Director at Lakeland Jr/Sr High. "To step back into ISSMA Solo & Ensemble after 16 years and perform at this level doesn't just show talent—it shows the resurgence of the arts at Lakeland. These students have officially put the Lakers back on the map in the ISSMA world!"
