Lydia Jacobson becomes the latest Laker to join the ranks of the world's premier women’s institution.
Lakeland School Corporation is proud to announce that Lydia Jacobson, a senior at Lakeland High School, has been accepted into Wellesley College. Known globally as the top-ranked women’s college and frequently cited as a "Hidden Ivy," Wellesley boasts a highly competitive acceptance rate of just 14%.
Lydia’s acceptance marks a significant milestone, not only for her academic career but for the entire Lakeland community. Her journey to this prestigious institution is the result of years of dedicated service and academic excellence.
"I put a lot into this community before I had this goal," Lydia said. "Seeing all of the work pay off felt like a picture-perfect moment."
While Lydia’s individual drive was the primary engine of her success, she credits a strong local support system for helping her navigate the rigorous application process. Lydia expressed deep gratitude for Marion Wiggins, a local community member and Wellesley alumna, whose mentorship and insight into the college’s culture proved invaluable. She also extended a heartfelt thank you to her parents for their unwavering support throughout her life.
The Jacobson family emphasizes that this achievement reflects the strength of the Lakeland School Corporation’s faculty and the diverse extracurricular opportunities available to students.
"This is not just a moment to celebrate Lydia's accomplishment, but the work of all of the teachers and staff who gave her the tools to succeed," said Crystal Jacobson, Lydia’s mother. "Not just academically, but also in the Academic Club, Youth Arts Festival, Hoosier Girls State, and more. This is an accomplishment of the whole school and should be celebrated by the whole community."
